In Memoriam, Tonya Reeves & Child

She was told it was safe,
that it was about freedom
and choice,
all routine.
They still say that,
did you see?
In their statement
on a mother,
a fiancee,
a sister,
a daughter,
a grandchild,
that it's all great, you know,
and the statistics are nice.

I didn't know her,
and I don't know if she
bought into it all.
But she came in,
went under,
bled out,
and two lives later,
two images
of God
the Creator Lord,
one tiny,
one grown,
were gone.

Lord, have mercy,
Christ, have mercy,
our eyes that do not see
our ears that do not hear
our foolish hearts.
Let us,
O Lord,
love life,
love You,
while it is called "today".
